It is not known whether this was a tactical decision or due to an injury.

After a below par performance in the team competition Cerasela Patrascu was back on form in the All-around, helped by a much improved performance on bars, she finished a close second to Ukrainian star Holenkova.
Andreea Acatrinei hit 3 routines very well becoming the only gymnast to score 14 plus on 3 events, achieving the top score in both vault and floor.

Stoica satisfied and Team Finals EYOF

Prosport reports Adrian Stoica explaining that after the two recent competitions (in Spain and Italy), things are moving in the right direction and progress is being made from competition to competition. He thinks that if the team stays the way it is, they could be battling for a podium place at Worlds.
Stoica adds that Catalina Ponor helps the team enormously on vault and beam and maybe even on floor in September.
He's satisfied about the progress the juniors have made but he's not too pleased that Sandra hasn't totally recovered but is happy that after such a long break, on bars she has come back with a more improved routine.

In the meantime the EYOF is taking place is Belgrade, Serbia. Cerasela Patrascu, Gabriela Dragoi and Andreea Acatrinei are representing Romania.
The girls struggled on bars, especially Patrascu was disappointing on this apparatus as she scored above 15 in Italy but now didn't get further than a 12.200!
Individual scores on all four apparatus:
Dragoi: 13.950/ 12.600/ 14.350/ 13.800
Patrascu: 14.600/ 12.200/ 14.800/ 12.950
Acatrinei: 14.450/ 12.400/ 14.550/ 14.150

Acatrinei qualified 5th AA with 55.550, Dragoi 10th with 54.700 and Patrascu 13th with 54.550.
Patrascu and Acatrinei qualified for beam and Acatrinei for floor.

6. Cerasela Patrascu 14.200/15.350/14.850/13.300 total: 57.700

Steliana continued her brilliant form on bars, getting the highest score of the UB competition.
Sandra trained all 4 events but competed outside of the competition. During competition she had a couple of falls (beam and floor) and watered down her acrobatics but that is normal after being injured.
Catalina Ponor competed on three apparatus except for bars. Her scores were quite high, vault 14.750, beam 16.300 and floor 14.600. Her scores on vault and beam were the highest of the competition.
For Prosport Nicolae Forminte said that Anamaria Tamarjan could be a solution for the team. He wasn't satisfied with the scores on floor and vault but he hopes that when Sandra comes back to full form, the scores on these two apparatus will increase.
Catalina Ponor: 'For me it was important to taste the competition atmosphere again. I hope that everything will keep on going well.'
Mariana Bitang added that it was a difficult competition. It lasted very long and it was cold in the hall. She thinks it's important that Catalina maintains a high standard on beam.

20 July 2007

Sandra Izbasa will compete her first competition again since injuring herself during the European Championships in April, where she broke her metatarsal. The Romanian team including Nistor, Ponor, Patrascu, Grigore, Tamarjan, Druncea, Dragoi and Izbasa will be competing against Italy, France, Switzerland, Egypt and the Czech Republic over the weekend.
For Prosport Sandra declared that her foot doesn't hurt anymore and it is up to her how she catches up with the time that she has lost. She feels that she has recovered the best on beam and slowly but surely on the other apparatus.
She sees this competition as a very important test as it will show how she has come back and on what she still needs to work.
Sandra knows that the time before Worlds is short and she hopes to be able to achieve the best possible form as she also has to add some new elements into her routines and she has lost training time due to her injury.
She is happy to have Ponor on the team as she brings stability to the team and her experience is important.
