Ana Porgras missed competing

Ana Porgras is doing well and after competing at the Romanian Internationals, she also competed in the Spain vs Romania competition and performed on vault as well as on bars and beam. Prosport had a chat with her about her progress and she is happy with what she has achieved so far, being able to vault now too instead of only doing bars and beam. She isn't doing much on floor yet as the coaches don't want to force it so she's taking things easy on this apparatus.
Ana was very nervous for her first competition as it has been a year since she last competed.
She was scared she was going to mess up somewhere but she missed competing and she hopes that she can go to as many competitions as possible to gain experience.
At Internationals, she had a SV of 6.1 on beam and she got there by hard work but this isn't the routine she wants to compete at Worlds as there is still an element she wants to add and she thinks the difficulty will be 6.6. She's doing the element on floor but she didn't have time to repeat it in her beam routine so that she is certain of the skill.
Her goal this year is to make it to Worlds and to get into the beam final and maybe bars final but she knows that she has to work harder than she has done so far.
Her knee isn't giving her any problems after the operation although she can not fully extend her knee completely but she's not in pain at all and hopes it will not give her any problems for the future.

Updates

First of all good news about Nicolae Forminte. He doesn't have skin cancer and it appears that the news has been blown out of proportion in the media. He had a light form of something that could potentially be skin cancer. He's had it removed and is doing fine now and even he says
that he doesn't think it's normal that the media talks about his personal problems as he feels one should just talk about his sporting career as a coach and about results and training.
He does admit that he's relieved that everything is ok and is thankful for the support he received.

The Romanian team had a friendly competition again Spain on the 13th of June and won without problems.

The Romanian team is in Mamaia (Constanta) at the moment for a week as a change of scenery but it's not a holiday, the girls train very hard, even on the beach. The girls with injuries are also treated with the special mud packs. For Prosport, Anamaria Tamarjan said: 'Even though we are still training, it's different here because the program is different than what we have every day in Deva.'

Sandra Izbasa didn't have much time to celebrate her birthday with a big party as she's in full training and is also studying for her Bac exam but she was thrilled with the surprise of the
director of DJS Constanta who gave her a huge cake.
Asked whether Sandra feels different being 19, she says no but maybe only that her
responsibility has grown and she's matured a little bit more regarding her priorities. The main
thing is her health, the rest will fall in to place naturally.
She thinks the training at the sea-side is important to recharge as Worlds is coming up but she's also resting a little for her Bac exam.
Rehab is going well and she's back on the apparatus since 3 weeks. She hasn't completely recovered yet but is doing well. She will continue to do 4 apparatus because that's how she started and it seems difficult for her to only do 2. The main focus is on beam and floor but she feels that vault and bars help her in preparation for beam and floor.
She is happy with the competition from the younger teammates and if one of them will be better than she is, it wouldn't upset her as she knows how much work goes behind it and she will respect the gymnast for that.
Her goal is still a World title on floor and she explains that even though she didn't win a medal at Europeans, also due to the problem with her heel, she will not give up so easily. She is going to adjust her floor routine compared to the one she performed at Europeans to raise her SV to 6.0
or even 6.2.
She's not sure what she is going to do after Worlds but she feels that she has more to give to gymnastics but she doesn't know whether this is for a year, two years or even three but she has the motivation that gives her the strength to continue.

Apparatus finals at Romanian International

First of all the apparatus finals at the Romanian Internationals. It's great to see how Raluca
Haidu has matured and her floor routine is amazing. It seems that the juniors are on the right track, looking at Amelia too who is in great shape.
Unfortunately there's sad news. It appears that Andreea Grigore has left Deva and has retired now. During an interview for the Romanian tv, Nicolae Forminte said that Cerasela Patrascu is
still struggling with her knee injury. The operation was successful but during surgery, they chipped the meniscus and therefore her knee is too unstable and they are not sure whether she
is able to land properly. At the moment, she needs to lose weight before she starts training and Forminte has given her a time limit. If she doesn't make this time limit, she is out of Deva.
Forminte said that all the girls struggle with weight gain.

For Prosport, Amelia said the following after the competition: 'It wasn't a difficult competition
but it's demanding to compete on all 4 apparatus but I think it suits me. I love what I'm doing now. Nothing exists outside of gymnastics for me. I know very well that without working (hard), you can't achieve anything so therefore I try and train as hard as possible and I pay attention to all the explainations of the coaches.'

Nicolae Forminte is satisfied with the way that the juniors are maturing and have performed at the Internationals. Amelia Racea, Diana Trenca, Raluca Haidu are going to the EYOD and Diana
Bulimar will be the alternate.

Forminte is a little disappointed with the performance of Diana Chelaru as she is inconsistent in competitions but in training she does really well. The gap and lack of technique shows in competitions, usually an element that she has been taught wrongly, it's been corrected, trained but when she gets into a stress situation like a competition, it (the wrong element) tends to come back.

He has a lot of belief in Ana Porgras and waits for her to be ready on all 4 apparatus. He feels it's a shame that she came to Deva injured, she had to undergo surgery, then rehab and after all of this, she could start training with them.
If she continues to progress well, she could go to Worlds and even do well in the beam final or maybe even bars final but he doesn't want to force her to do floor and vault.

About Diana Bulimar competing at Internationals Forminte explains that he has asked for a long time that the juniors Diana Bulimar, Madalina Neagu and Larisa Iordache would join the senior team in Deva because it's good for them to train with them than with the juniors in Onesti. He feels that all three are extremely talented although unfortunately Madalina Neagu had to undergo surgery on her crossed ligaments (knee) and will be out for a while.

Junior Amelia Racea wins Romanian Internationals over senior Chelaru

After winning the individual competition in Lugano, where she beat Spanish gymnast Izurieta who finished 4th all-around at the recent European Championships, Amelia won again at the Romanian Internationals.
Amelia was very sure of herself and performed solid routines without errors and scored a total of 58.150. She also achieved the highest score of the competition on beam, a 15,450, beating Gabriela Dragoi on this apparatus.
Very pleasant was the come back of Ana Porgras, the Junior European beam champion who had to sustain an operation on her knee. She competed on bars and beam.
Tiny junior Diana Bulimar, who will be 14 in August, also competed on all 4 apparatus and was very impressive on floor.
Junior Raluca Haidu even outscored Diana Chelaru who had a big problem on bars.

Results

Gabriela Dragoi: UB: 14.550; BB: 15.000

Prosport had a chat with Amelia, who was born on the 29th of August 1994, after the
competition and asked her what she thought of the competition. Amelia didn't think it was
difficult and moreover, she states that a competition is far easier than training where you have
to do the same routine tens of times. She was a little nervous, mostly for bars and beam, but
she got through it ok.
She did think that the competition in Lugano was more difficult as there were more competitors and the competition was fierce but it worked out ok for her as she was in good shape at both competitions and she worked as she wished she would do.
Because Amelia has been to many competitions recently, she's gained experience and she is trying to do the routines as she sets out to do.
Her goals for this year are to go to the European Youth Olympic Festival which will take place in Tampere, Finland between 18-25 of July where she would like to win the all-around and to win a medal on all 4 apparatus.
She has to admit she's a little tired but it means a lot for her to gain experience and to gather a lot of belief in herself.

Nicolae Forminte diagnosed with skin cancer

This very sad news was reported in Prosport. The 52 year old head coach Nicolae Forminte has been diagnosed with skin cancer (on his chest) and will have the operation in Romania.
For some years he had the feeling something was wrong with him but he never thought it could be this serious.
He will keep on working in Deva as he doesn't want his good work to go to waste.
From all his gymnasts, Sandra seems the most worried about his health. Forminte: 'I can feel that Sandra watches me when I'm not in good shape.'
We wish Nicolae well and hopefully he will have a speedy recovery.

Romanian International competition this weekend

The Romanian Internationals will be held this weekend in Ploiesti, starting tomorrow with the
men's competition.
The women compete on Saturday, with a qualification first and then all-around final. The apparatus finals are on Sunday.
As Sandra Izbasa and Anamaria Tamarjan are still recovering from injury, a lot of the up and coming youngsters will compete, Diana Chelaru, Raluca Haidu, Diana Trenca, Ana Porgras and Amelia Racea, alongside 'veteran' Gabriela Dragoi. Ana and Gabriela will only compete on bars and beam. It will be Ana's first competition after her knee operation.

In the meantime Sandra Izbasa is recovering from her operation to remove a veruca on the sole of her foot and she's doing well. She's training on bars a lot and the elements that she has for beam she is training on floor and she is also doing a lot of physical training.
She finds it tough that she is side-lined and can't take part in competitions.
Sandra is also studying for her Bac exam whenever she has free time and also wants to get her driving license.
About the fact that so many people thought she would retire after Europeans she says that she wants to show those who didn't have faith in her,
who she is and what she can do. She's looking ahead and when she goes to a competition, she doesn't automatically get on the podium but she trains hard and afterwards, looks at the results.

Steliana Nistor: 'I ate chocolate until I felt sick'

Cotidianul spoke to Stela to see how she was doing. Her back feels better but that's due to the fact that she hasn't been training so hard anymore, she only does ballet at the moment. Her left hand is still giving her grief. Stela had treatment in Eforie Nord (a resort in Constanta) but in
vain. It continues to hurt and she can't use it at all.
She misses gymnastics as it was her life. She visits the gym in Sibiu from time to time but she isn't doing training herself. She plays, moves and she loves to run around the gym.
Asked if she wants to come back in the team she answers that for the time being, it's really difficult as she's gained weight and the pain in her hand doesn't allow her to train as she should and she is certain that if she does start training hard, the back problems will re-appear. She wouldn't be able to do 4 apparatus but 2 she would like to do. She could compete on beam and bars and she spoke to Mr. Stoica about this but he said that she can not represent Romania on only two apparatus.

Steliana went to Milan to support the girls at Europeans but she came back disappointed as nobody spoke to her except for Lili Cosma and it made her feel quite bad. She doesn't under-stand why the girls aren't talking to her and is rethinking of going to Internationals if they continue to ignore her as there's no point. The same counts for visiting Deva on Sunday when she's free as she feels she would make the trip for nothing.

Mr. Forminte avoided her too and she doesn't think he has a motive. Stela knows that she said that she would sue the Federation but not him. She has blamed him for treating the girls differently and favouring Sandra. She mentions that during Easter, Sandra was at home but the rest of the girls stayed in Deva for training and she feels that he could have given everybody 2 days off, not just Sandra.

She hasn't made friends yet at University and she feels that the girls are bad and jealous. Her mother and her brother are very close to her and that's enough for her. Sometimes she sees colleagues from gymnastics but that's it.
Stela loves spending time in her new apartment and spends most of her time there but she visits the theatre together with her brother Marian weekly and she loves it.

Stela can eat anything she likes now but that doesn't mean that she eats a lot, her daily menu
is some fish, borsch or soup. She drinks a lot of water so she's not too hungry. Straight after
she left gymnastics, she ate chocolate and ice cream until she felt sick. She only put on about
4 kg since she retired and weighs 49 kg now.

She would love to be a coach but not in Romania, abroad. She dreams that one day she can be
a coach at the Academy of Nadia Comaneci as she was her idol in gymnastics. She hasn't received an offer yet but when she does, she will take the first plane out there. However, she
is thankful that she has managed to achieve what she wanted in life so far.

Dragoi and Chelaru qualify for apparatus finals in Glasgow

Gabriela Dragoi and Diana Chelaru have qualified for a place in the apparatus finals in Glasgow, Scotland. Even though Gabriela fell off bars, she still qualified 5th and Diana qualified 8th. Gabi
did much better on beam where she qualified in first place. Unfortunately Diana didn't do so well on beam and finished 11th.
Chelaru also qualified for floor and was automatically qualified for the vault final as only 7 gymnasts entered for this apparatus so no qualification was held.

Dragoi and Chelaru in training for the Glasgow Grandprix

Gabriela Dragoi and Diana Chelaru will compete at the Glasgow Grandprix on the 14th - 17th of May. Prosport reports that the training is going as usual, Dragoi only trains on beam and bars
and is still in pain when she forces herself. At the end of the month they will have a medical check up and then will see if she can also train on the other two apparatus without putting her
injury at risk.
For Diana Chelaru, who replaces Sandra Izbasa, it is important that she gains more experience
at competitions and that she will improve her performance at Worlds compared to that of Europeans and Nicolae Forminte hopes that she will improve that much that she could compete for medals at the end of the year.

Operation for Sandra Izbasa

Hunedoreanul reports that Sandra had to endure an operation to remove a veruca on the sole of her foot. Nicolae Forminte took her to the best dermatologists in Bucharest who examined her right foot through local anaesthetic and initially they thought it was just superficial but the root
is deep. Sandra had been complaining about this pain for a few months but they postponed the operation so she could compete at Europeans. The veruca appeared after training in the
mountains and Forminte thought it was just a corn but she kept on complaining about pain, especially after landing.
Sandra, who had the operation at the end of April, could be out for 2 to 3 weeks. She is doing light training and is wearing a bandage to protect her from getting an infection.
