Stela wins Sport Personality of the year in Sibiu, Tamarjan back in training.... On Friday, Steliana was chosen as the best athlete of the discrict Sibiu and received an envelope with money and a diploma with congratulations. Stela: 'I am honoured that I have been chosen Sports Personality of the Year again in Sibiu and it makes me happy.' Anamaria Tamarjan is coming back from her hip injury sustained before the Olympics in Beijing. Nicolae Forminte said for Prosport: 'Ana is doing really well, she's really motivated and has started her training sessions again. She has even refused to go on holiday, she wants to stay and train. Her wish is to go to the American Cup and because there's only two months until then, she wants to work hard and work on all the apparatus. Her coming back has made us really happy. She won't go home this holiday, that's her wish, and she will only spend one day with her family, the rest of the time she will train. The rest of the team will leave for Poiana Brasov on the 19th of December until the 28th. Sandra Izbasa finished 4th on beam and 3rd on floor during the World Cup final held in Madrid during the weekend. Next weekend, Sandra will take part at a gala in Belgium. Beam: 1. Sandra Izbasa (Rom) 15.000 Larisa Iordache finishes 4th at Top Gym Larisa Iordache and Diana Bulimar both travelled to Belgium to compete at the Top Gym competition but unfortunately Diana injured herself during the warming up on floor. She landed awkwardly on her ankle and had to be taken to hospital but things didn't seem too bad a day later. Larisa did compete and finished 4th due to a very low score on bars. It was very cold in the arena and she had put on a lot of clothing to keep her warm as she was last up on bars. All of a sudden the judges turned the light to green and she had to hurry to present herself and rushed all the way through her routine. It will add to her experience but it is a shame she finishes 4th behind a gymnast who has fallen 4 times during the competion. All in all Larisa keeps on proving to be a huge talent, especially on beam and floor. Results All-Around: 1. Jordyn Wieber (USA) VT: 15,000; UB: 15,250; BB: 15,000; FX: 14,550 Total: 59,800 2. Diana Chelaru, ready for the big work The Europeans in France meant bad luck for Diana as she got injured just before the competition started. Sitting on the side line, watching her teammates warm up, she cried from utter disapointment. At the age of 4 and a half, being a frail child, her parents thought it might help her if she practised a sport so they took her to the gym 'Nadia Comaneci' in Onesti. Diana knew nothing about gymnastics but soon got the hang of it and would like to become another Nadia, who is her idol. The results that she achieved meant that she was recommended for the senior team who train in Deva so she had to leave home to persue her career. For Prosport she said: 'It was really difficult in the beginning, even though I knew the girls. It was just the thought of being so far from home, apart from my family who I could see whenever I wanted when I trained in Onesti. However, everybody has supported and encouraged me, most of all the coaches.' Her dream is to win an Olympic medal on vault and execute a perfect 'Amanar' and to help the team and she will work hard to fulfil this. 26 November 2008 Patrascu can't train yet, Porgras needs an operation Cerasela Patrascu, Gabriel Dragoi and Ana Porgras travelled to Milan to see a specialist. The diagnoses are the same as the ones they got in Romania but they wanted advice on the treatment and rehabilitation. They want to avoid working with girls who aren't completely recovered as their injuries will worsen. Patrascu, who's undergone 2 meniscus surgeries on her right knee, heard that she can't start training yet and has to wait for another 2 months because it isn't certain if the cartilage where she had the arthroscopy, will fully recover. Ana Porgras is not even 15 years old yet (she'll be 15 on the 18th of December) but she made a name for herself during the European Championships in Clermont Ferrand this year where she won gold on beam with superiority. She competed with a lot of pain, having a severe knee injury, a detached ligament, which kept her out of training. For Prosport Ana said: 'I grit my teeth and competed. I knew I was risking a lot but I felt that nobody could beat me.' Ana started gymnastics at the age of 4. Guided by coaches Nina and Paul Galea, she joined the team in Onesti and after 10 months, she was selected for the junior team who train in Deva. Ana: 'You need a lot of hard work and seriousness. I love beam, I am confident on this apparatus and I support it well.' Things haven't always been sunshine. Ana: 'There have been a lot of times when I wanted to retire. When I came to Deva, it was really difficult for me. I sat on the bench in front of the gym, with my bags packed and I thought of going home. Steliana Nistor told me that if I have fought up until now, I shouldn't give up and should continue.' Ana is struggling though as she's injured and can't compete on all 4 apparatus and has only been able to do bars. Unfortunately she will need an operation. For Prosport, Nicolae Forminte explains: 'Ana needs an operation on her left knee, where she has a detached ligament. At this time, the officials of the Federation are talking to her family about this operation. The family has the last word on whether the operation will take place and in which city or country she will be operated on.' Gabriela Dragoi is at the end of her rehab period and can start intensifying her training in a couple of days. 25 November 2008 Sandra wins floor at 2 competitions Sandra Izbasa is doing very well at the moment. At the Toyota International Cup in Japan, she won floor with a score of 15.500 and finished 2nd on beam with a 15.150 A week later she and Dana Druncea competed at the Grand Prix in Milan, Italy, where she won floor yet again with a 14.850 and 2nd on beam with a 14.650 Dana Druncea finished 2nd on floor (14.000), 5th on bars (12.650) and 4th on beam (14.150) Former gymnast Oana Petrovschi wants to have her own calendar published for the holidays. Gazeta Sporturilor reports that Oana loves posing and it was her mother who encouraged her to do so. Oana: 'I really liked it but I didn't think it was going to be so difficult. To stand still, to have your make up done and most of all, to go into freezing cold water.' Oana would love to be a model but with her being 1.61, she is a bit on the short side. Some updates Sandra Izbasa won the Gander Memorial at the end of October with good routines, showing that she's slowly but surely getting back into competitive form. She scored a 14.000 on vault, a 15.100 on beam and a 15.200 on floor, achieving a total of 44.300 and winning over Oksana Chusovitina who had a total of 44.000 and over Chinese gymnast He Ning who had 43.550. Sandra then competed at the Swiss Cup at the start of November together with Romanian gymnast Flavius Koczi and they finished second. After the competition, Nicolae Forminte said the following to Prosport: 'It was a good competition, the same as during the Gander Memorial, mostly still adapting. Sandra isn't totally prepared yet, she's starting to come back. She also seemed a little tired during the competition, after a long break, she came back strongly by competing in two competitions on three apparatus with two days apart. It's good that there doesn't seem to be any health issues and looking at the next competitions, we're optimistic. We'll see how she will deal with the tiredness.' 1. China 31,250 He Ning 15,250 and Lu Bo 16,000 2. Romania 30,775 Sandra Izbasa 14,650 and Flavius Koczi 16,125 3. Russia 30,750 Ksenia Afanasyeva 15,120 and Maxim Deviatovski 15,600 Sandra's next competition will be on the 15th of November in Japan, at the Toyota Cup. Outside gymnastics, Sandra has received her present for her gold Olympic medal, an orange Hover car. Although she can't drive yet, she was really excited about receiving the car and tried out all the buttons. She said that she can't wait to get her driving license. Sandra came to the event with her father who patiently answered his daughter's questions about all the functions in the car. |
