Lavinia Milosovici's daughter has passed away

Denisa Florentina, the 4 year old daughter of Lavinia has passed away this morning due to a disease of the nervous system.
Denisa was born on the 20th of March 2004, 2 months premature and weighed just 1.1kg.
In July 2007, she was operated on in a clinic in Beijing.
A week ago, Milo had an intervention on the phone during a Romanian tv show dedicated to the Romanian gymnastics champions and appologized for not being there in person but she had to
be alongside her little girl.

Octavian Belu, Milo's former coach declared for Mediafax: 'Hearing this shocking news, your first reaction is that of horror. I can't have anything else than a message of encouragement for Milo, who sacrificed everything, including a career as a gymnastics coach, for the recuperation of her child. Milo has lost a child that herself was fighting for her life but for her, as a mother, it's an horrendous blow. For parents there's nothing worse than losing a child and we can only send all our compassion and to pray that they will get through this moment. Personally, I don't think that anything can erase this tragedy from Milo's life but maybe with the arrival of another child in her family, it could lessen the shock of this loss.'

Denisa, little girl, rest in peace and we wish Milo and her family a lot of strength to get through this tragic moment in life. God bless you all.

Prints in cement

In the Herastrau Park in Bucharest, the Olympic stars were invited to leave their handprints in cement in the 'Alley of Success'. The Romanian gymnastics team was present too and Andreea Raducan and Monica Rosu were also invited.
For Romanian tv, Sandra Izbasa said: 'Success means a lot of hard work and I'm really happy when my work is being acknowledged. I think that every athlete feels this way. When you're on the podium, you're overwhelmed with all different kinds of emotions and you feel an extraordinary happiness.'
Steliana was present too and looked happy to be with her teammates.

It seems that Stela is retiring from gymnastics

First of all, sorry I didn't keep you up to date sooner with the latest news but I have been away for 2 weeks and didn't have the possibility to work on the site.

After the Olympics in Beijing, Stela went home to Sibiu, unlike the other girls who went to the
sea side for a holiday. Gazeta Sporturilor went to visit her and talked to Stela about her
thoughts and future plans. She explains that she has problems with her back, elbow, joints,
ankle and knee. Stela: 'It's not a problem in my head. Physically I can't go on. On vault everything hurts, on beam by foot and (spinal) column hurt, on bars my back hurts and on floor everything hurts. There's no point in going on!'

How did the problems start? Well, after Steliana became the junior European champion in 2004, with a higher total score than the senior winner, she sustained an injury on her column and had
an operation on her knee. She took a year off and lost a lot of time but she was still very
young and she had to grit her teeth to get through it all but the injury got worse.
However, in 2006 during the Europeans in Volos, she performed on bars and helped the team win the silver medal. In 2007, she won her first senior individual medal, a silver on bars at the Europeans in Amsterdam, followed by a bronze medal on beam. Later that year she won an all-around silver medal at the World Championships in Stuttgart and a silver medal on beam.
In 2008, the icing on the cake for her was when the Romanian team won a team gold at the Europeans in Clermont-Ferrand and where Stela won a silver on bars. Everything seemed to go well on route for Beijing but after the National championships, Stela complained of more pain but it wasn't the same pain as in 2005. Her preparation for Beijing was hampered and she had to water down her routines and needed 6 injections to make sure she was able to compete 3 full competitions and the bars final there.

What does life look like for Stela without gymnastics? She's been in Sibiu now for almost a
month.
Stela: 'When I got home, I left my luggage and I went for a walk. I don't like to stay locked in. For so long I have only known about training and school.' She bought chocolate and ate until
she felt sick and has had enough of it now, although they are allowed chocolate in Deva. 'I know that I will gain weight. Not because I will eat more, but because I'm suddenly stopping physical training. I won't exaggerate with eating. I've only replaced brown bread for white.'

Coach Nicolae Forminte has also talked to Stela. Prosport reports the following: Forminte: 'We talked together, analysed all the pros and cons and Steliana came to the conclusion that she doesn't want to continue. It's really difficult for her because one part of her wants to continue but she also doesn't want to confuse us with one minute she continues and the next minute she wants to retire. At this moment, her health is the main priority but she has to know that we will still welcome her among us.'
Today, Friday the 3rd or October, Stela will take part at an event in Bucharest, with the other members of the Olympic team. Forminte: 'This weekend we will be a team again and I will have the possibility to talk to her much more. It's an immense loss because it's very difficult to
replace a gymnast with her qualities.'

Will Stela retire?

Steliana Nistor is home in Sibiu at the moment where she received the promised rented accomodation. She has a contract for 5 years but the contract can be extended.
In the meantime, the rest of the team (Izbasa, Tamarjan, Dragoi, Acatrinei, Grigore, Patrascu, Druncea, Gutu and Palade) have met up in Constanta where they are having a well earned holiday/training camp at the sea side and where they are trying out the tubes in the swimming pool. They will return to Deva on the 14th of September. Nicolae Forminte phones Stela every day and is trying to motivate her to continue gymnastics. If she does, she will go straight to Deva and will not join the rest of the team at the sea side.

Cerasela Patrascu has undergone another keyhole surgery on her right knee and her meniscus because she was complaining about pain during the training. She has joined the rest of the team in Constanta and Forminte explained that she needs a long recovery but things have changed as now she has the time to recover slowly and be at full strength in 2 years time. When things go according to plan, they are going to use next year to try and fix all her elements. (Prosport)
